Happy New Year Giraffes! We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are ready for the busy term ahead!
We are going to be learning all about Europe this term, with a particular focus on Italy. Within our topic we will be learning about the disaster of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. To help us understand this disaster we are going to begin by writing explanation texts for the eruption of a volcano. We will also be using the text ‘Escape from Pompeii’ to help us understand what it would have been like during the time of the eruption.
In maths we will be looking at position and direction, followed by fractions, decimals and percentages. Please help to support your children Ruth any maths homework or any questions they might have from what they are learning. Children will be coming home with revision and Maths Club will start after half term. We do expect full attendance for this, all children enjoy small group work with support from a range of teachers across the school. It is a beneficial club which is always very popular.
We are lucky to have the PE coach again this term. The children will be doing gymnastics which will be in the hall every Monday. Please ensure children have appropriate PE kit, including footwear.
Each child has been given a reading record and book and are expected to read at home with an adult at least three times a week. This needs to be recorded in their reading records and returned each Wednesday where they have an opportunity to read with an adult in class and can change their books. It is really important that children are reading at home to build yo their fluency and comprehension skills, please support your children with this.
Children are still able to log in to Times table Rockstars, Spelling Shed and Read Theory, all of which can support them with their learning at home.
if you have any questions please come and ask.

Hello and welcome back to school!
Wow! Year 6! how time flies when you are having fun! We are excited to see everyone back, looking smart in their school uniform and have lots of exciting things planned.
Our topic this term is Tudors, we will be looking at the lifestyle of the Tudors and how they influenced Shakespeare's plays. During our topic we will be looking at the introduction of the Tudors, who reigned during this period and crime and punishment during this time.
We are also very excited to go on our residential trip to Butlins next month (9th-11th October) where we have got a wide range of activities planned for us! More information about this will be sent out shortly.
In Literacy we will be writing and narrating our own animal documentaries in the style of David Attenborough and we will eventually use the green screen to even film our documentary writing! We will also be looking at the story of Macbeth and writing our own stories based on the play. We have started reading Wonder - which we absolutely love - and have done some art work and PSHE based around the book. This book is also one of our '100 books to read before leaving St George's,' how many other books can you read this term? These can be recorded in their reading records and in their 100 book reading journals. We are also continuing to use Spelling Shed this year, children's spellings will be updated on the app each week, please allow your children to play the spelling games at home, we have noticed a massive improvement with their spellings since having the game.
In Maths we will be focusing on place value, looking at reading, writing and ordering numbers to one million. We will also be looking at the four operations and using these to help us solve problems and reason. We still love Times Table Rockstars - please continue your children to play at home each night as this can help support your child in other areas of their maths.
PE will be on a Monday this year, we will have the sports coach for the first half term and this will be dance, indoors, please ensure that children have appropriate PE kit each week.
If you have any questions please do call into the office or catch us by the gate at the end of the day.
