Welcome back to the summer term! It is so good to all be back together again!
Our topic this term is called ' Grab your Passport' and we will be exploring the links that Great Britain has all around the world through different aspects of our learning. In history, we are learning about World War II, especially the role that Lincolnshire played during this time, for example, as the home of Bomber Command. We will be using our topic for Art and DT activities as well. In English, we will be writing recount letters, using the theme of evacuation. In Maths, we are continuing to use the White Rose maths planning, as well as revisiting different areas through our Daily Dashboard sessions. Our science topic is living things and their habitats, where we will be learning about identifying and classifying plants and animals - hopefully the summer weather will give us lots of opportunities to get outside in our allotment and Basecamp to investigate the habitats there!
We will be learning about Christianity in RE this term, and looking at inspirational people and tolerance through our PSHCE lessons.
As our uniform continues to be shorts, jogging bottoms or leggings and trainers, we will take every opportunity to be learning outside - PE days for Giraffes will be on a Thursday, but we may go outside for other lessons during the week.
We are continuing to try and limit the paper going in and out of school, so homework this term will be based on Spelling Shed, Times Table Rockstars and topic homework posted in Giraffes Google Classroom. If children do work at home that they would like to share, they can upload work and photos to Google Classroom, or email to me at email@example.com If work is brought in from home, it will be quarantined before we can share it.
As ever, if you have any questions or concerns, I am usually on the gate at home time, or you can contact the office and I will call you back.
Hopefully we will have a great summer term in Giraffes!
Love, Mrs Burrows :)
Welcome back to a brand new school year! We are so excited to see you and get started with all the fabulous learning we have got planned! I know it will be a bit different coming back to school this term after lockdown, but I know we are going to have a super year together!
For the first few weeks of term, until our new classroom is ready, we will be based in what will be Tiger's classroom and sharing with some of the Tiger children, which will be nice :) As soon as we can, we will be moving to our brand new classroom, how exciting!
Our topic this term is 'Lights, Camera, Action!' and we have lots of super learning planned around this topic. We are going to focus lots of our learning on America, finding out about the American continents in geography, the Ancient Maya civilisation in history, with lots of art and music linked to these. Our Cultural Day this term is based on USA - we have so many great ideas we could learn about for this that we are struggling to pick just a few!! In science, we are going to be learning about light and how we see things and in computing, we are going to be learning about coding and programming. We will also be learning about migration and how people from many different cultures and backgrounds now live in America - what has been the impact of migration and how do these different groups live together? In RE, we will be exploring beliefs such as humanism, as well as inspirational people. For English, we will be creating poetry and stories, with a focus on developing vocabulary and descriptions. In Maths, we will be following the White Rose curriculum, developing place value and the four operations.
We are so excited to have our new outdoor area in KS2 - it really is fantastic! We will be spending lots of time learning outside and have lots of great plans for introducing you to Basecamp! As we will be doing lots of outdoor learning, please make sure you have jumpers and coats with you - a spare pair of socks would also be a good idea in case you need to warm your feet up when you get back inside!
Our PE day will be a Monday and a Thursday, but because of our new uniform (black joggers and black trainers) and no need to change for PE, you don't need to bring a PE kit at the moment. This also means we can get out and do extra PE on different days if we get the chance!
Homework will be very similar to last year. You will have a homework book with all your logins for TTRS, Spelling Shed and Read Theory in it (don't worry if any of these are new to you, we will show you in class!). There will be maths and English homework sent home in your book every Friday, and a weekly assignment on Spelling Shed and TTRS. You probably know how much I love reading, and we are going to have such a great time exploring different books and stories this year, so I want you to work really hard on your reading too. Please try to read 5 times a week for 30 minutes and record what you are reading each time on the sheet in your homework book. There will also be a topic sheet of activities to do over the half term. If you make amazing projects at home, you can take a photo and email it to school or print a picture and stick it in your book to show us your fabulous work! Please bring your homework book and reading book in every Wednesday - if you are one of our Homework Heroes bringing your homework in every week, there will be rewards!!
We will be coming in and out of the park gate every day, so your parents and carers can see me at the end of the day there, or make an appointment through ringing or emailing the office.
Although some things may be different about the start of this school year, we still can't wait to welcome you back to our St George's family, and get started on a great year of learning - that never changes!
See you soon!
Love Mrs Burrows
