Welcome back to school, Penguin Class. We are very excited about the new school year. Our topic is 'Lights Camera Action' and we have lots of exciting learning planned.
In Literacy, we shall be focusing on traditional tales. We shall be reading and learning the 'Three Billy Goats Gruff' story off by heart before changing the characters and writing our own versions. We shall also be taking part in lots of fun activities to improve our vocabulary.
In Maths, we shall be focusing on place value. We will be learning how to compare, order, read and write numbers up to 100. In addition to this, we shall be learning our 2x, 3x, 5x and 10x table. You will be getting a log in and password for Times Table Rockstars very soon and this will help you recall your times table facts.
In Design and Technology, we will be learning about puppets. You will be making a range of moving puppets that you can use to retell the stories that we learn in our Literacy lessons.
In Geography, you will be learning all about the United States of America. We will be learning about the different types of weather in different states, the animals that live in the USA and about important celebrations. It would be great if you could find out your own facts at home to share with your friends.
Each Monday, Mrs Davidson will be teaching you Science and RE. In Science, you will be learning about the different seasons. It's important that you practise saying the months of the year at home as you will need to know them during your Science lessons. In RE, you will be learning about Islam. During the Autumn term, you will be finding out about how faith and beliefs affect the everyday lives of Muslims.
We will be keeping active each day during Y2. We take part in many Go Noodle activities during the day and we will also be learning how to skip. You will each have your own skipping rope that you can use to improve your technique! In our PE lessons, we will be using the rugby balls and playing a range of tag rugby games.
Maths homework and Phonics homework will be sent home each Friday. This should be returned on the following Wednesday. There is also a sheet of homework challenges that can be completed at any time before October half term. Please send in any photographs of the creations that your children have made to firstname.lastname@example.org .
If you have any questions, we will be available to talk at the end of each school day.
