Reception/Y1 - Otters

Hi Otters!

A warm welcome back to the Summer Term!  After what was a very disjointed Spring term, it is very exciting to have you all back in the classroom where you belong. This term, we have a new topic which is 'Grab your Passports' and we will be learning about 'Australia' for this term's Cultural Day. We will have the opportunity to find out what it is like to live in Australia from people who live there.

In Science, alongside all other areas of the curriculum, we will be utilising our wonderful outdoor areas to learn about the natural world and we will be looking at a range of plants and trees and what the different parts of them are called. In History, we will start by learning about the area that we live and what farming looks like in Lincolnshire. We will then learn about Marshall's yard and how farming machinery has changed in recent years.

Please remember to come to school in your black leggings/joggers and black trainers so that we are ready to do lots of outdoor learning and our regular PE lessons. When it gets even warmer, you might want to come to school in black shorts.

In English, we will be learning how to write instructions, using the story 'Little Red Hen' and we will have the opportunity to write instructions and bake our own bread. In Maths, we will be following the White Rose Maths curriculum and we are going to be using numbers within 50. We will also be focussing on multiplication and division alongside learning how many tens and ones are in numbers.

I love to read, it can take our imagination to so many exciting places and as a class, we will be reading lots of stories together in school. It would be really great if you could read your reading book everyday at home too! Reading a story with your grown ups or siblings at home is great fun and I can't wait to hear about what stories you like to read.

Homework is changing slightly this term. Both Reception and Year 1 children are going to be receiving weekly homework tasks for English/Phonics and Maths. As well as this, you are going to have reading books allocated to you on Rising Stars. Please return your homework book on a Wednesday- for those of you who return it every week there will be a reward for being a Homework Hero!

If any parents or carers need to see myself or Mrs McBroom, we are available either at the end of the day or you can contact the office to make an appointment.

Love Miss Cassell and Mrs McBroom smiley
