We are SO excited to welcome you to our class this year! We have worked really hard to make our classroom a place where you can all feel safe and happy and grow into independent, enthusiastic learners!
With so many areas to access in our classroom, outdoor area and forest area you will be very busy at school. We will do even more outdoor learning than before so remember to bring your coat and wear sensible footwear everyday. A spare pair of socks is always a good idea too (in case you get damp feet!).
In our first few days we will be getting to know each other again, learning our rules and routines to make our classroom a safe, happy place to be. There will be plenty of opportunities for independent learning and seeing your friends.
We will start our learning with traditional tales (we need to keep an eye out for clues in our classroom to see which characters might like to sneak a visit when we aren't looking!). As we learn about these stories we will develop our Literacy skills through Phonics, 'Funky fingers' sessions, shared reading time and pencil grip activities. All these things will help us learn the skills we need later in the year.
In Maths, following the White Rose Maths curriculum, we will start with a focus on numbers, counting and number recognition using plenty of fun, memorable activities and resources to help us. There will be a daily Maths challenge in our Maths area for you to try out during independent learning time as well.
Our topic for the term is 'Lights, Camera, Action!' and we will do lots of role play, performing and acting out stories as well as getting creative making masks and props. We will find out how cameras have changed over the years and have a go at making videos of our own performances. Our cultural day is the USA so we will do lots of learning about famous places and have a 'visit' to Hollywood where the words 'Lights, Camera, Action!' get used all the time!
Our P.E days are on Monday and Wednesday but, for now, you do not need to bring a P.E kit. Remember our new uniform requires black joggers and black trainers so we will always be ready for P.E.
By the end of the first week back, you will all be given a reading book and a reading record. Please remember to bring this back to school every morning as well as reading to a grown up at home (remind your grown-up to sign it and write a comment to let us know how you did). Along with your reading book you will also get some homework to do.
Reception children - you will get a half-termly sheet with activities to do. Ask you grown up to take a photo of your homework and put it on Tapestry so we can see.
Year One children - you will get the half termly homework sheet and a homework book. Your grown up can take a photo of your work and email it to school or print and stick it in your book. You will also get a Literacy/Phonics activity and a Maths activity to do each week. These will be sent home in your book on a Friday and need to come back the following Wednesday (don't worry we will remind you).
If parents/carers need to speak to either of us they can do so at the end of the school day or by telephoning the school office to make an appointment.
We are always here to help and look forward to welcoming you on the first day of term. We can't wait to get started!
