Year 5 - Pandas

Welcome back to school, Panda Class! We hope you have had a lovely time off and are ready for lots of exciting learning this half term.

Our topic this term is 'Marvellous Me.' Our focus for this half term will be on our hopes and aspirations for our future.  We will be finding out about different jobs and inviting a range of professionals into our class to find out more about what they do. As many of our class have hopes to become artists, Mrs Townsend has organised for Alexis Rago to come into school and work with the class. They will find out what it is like to be an artist before participating in a range of activities to earn the 'Arts Award.'

Literacy

The children will be working on lots of exciting things over the next half term.  We will be using 'The Best Part of Me' book within the first few weeks. Within the book, a range of  school children have thought about what their best part of them is. We are going to write our own book focusing on the best part of us!

Maths

A big focus for this term is fractions, decimals and percentages. The children shall be adding and subtracting fractions as well as multiplying proper fractions and mixed numbers. The children will also be working hard to consolidate their times table facts up to 12X12. One of their favourite ways to practise their times tables is on the Times Table Rockstar game. They all have a username and password and are able to access this at home.

The children can receive certificates based on their speed or how many coins they earn! Get practising, Pandas!

PE

The children will have PE each Thursday with the Sports Coach. Please make sure that your child has their PE kit in school on this day.

Sports Day

This will be held on Friday 24th May. Your child must be wearing their school PE tshirt in the correct house colour. These tshirts are available to purchase from the school  office.

If you have any concerns or questions about anything else, please feel free to speak to us at the end of the day.
