Welcome back to school, Panda Class! We hope you have had a lovely time off and are ready for lots of exciting learning this half term.
Our topic this term is 'Adventures.' Our focus for this half term will be on adventures in nature; we have been inspired by the RSPB Big Bird Watch 2019 and have got many exciting activities planned. Our role play area has been transformed into a bird hide and we will be bird watching from our window. We have been using the RSPB website to help us identify birds from photographs. We have also made bird feeders to hang on our trees to encourage more birds to visit St George's. Have a look at the RSPB website to join in the fun at home.
The children will be working on lots of exciting things over the next half term. We will be using 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' book within the first few weeks. Within the story, a young boy discovers lots of imaginary creatures that live among him and his family. He finds the 'Spiderwick Field Guide' that teaches him all about them. We shall be researching the interesting creatures that feature in the stories before designing our own. Following this, we will write information texts about them to publish in our own ' St George's Field Guide.'
Our first unit of Maths in 2019 is multiplication and division. The children shall be using long multiplication methods to multiply 2digit numbers by 2, 3 and 4 digit numbers. Once we have mastered multiplication, we will move onto division and start dividing 4digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. The children will also be working hard to consolidate their times table facts up to 12X12. One of their favourite ways to practise their times tables is on the Times Table Rockstar game. They all have a username and password and are able to access this at home.
The children can receive certificates based on their speed or how many coins they earn! Get practising, Pandas!
The children will have PE each Thursday and Friday. Please make sure that your child has their PE kit in school for these days. PE on Thursday is outside with the Sports Coach; please send your child with a jacket as it can be quite chilly!
We have sent out 11+ information this week. If you would like to register your child for this test, please come into school for a registration form. We are also happy to answer any questions that you may have about the 11+.
If you have any concerns or questions about anything else, please feel free to speak to us at the end of the day.
