Year 3 - Flamingos

Welcome back, Flamingos! We hope you have all had a fantastic Christmas break and are ready to start 2019 off with loads of fun learning! Our whole-school topic this term is Adventure - I wonder where we will go!

In Literacy, we will be writing biographies about famous explorers and we may even write our own adventure stories; I wonder where your story will take us!

In Maths, we will be focusing on multiplying and dividing this term. We will be using different strategies, such as: bar modelling, arrays, repeated addition and short multiplication and division.

As our topic this term is 'Adventurers', we are going to be learning about the fantastic adventures that some famous explorers have been on. We will be learning about the location of countries and we may even travel to a few landmarks along the way!

DT this term will be creating our own boats. We are going to be designing, making and evaluating our own boats to see whether or not our boats would be fit to make an exploration voyage!

This term, our Science topic is Rocks and Soils. We will be focusing on how different types of rocks are made and may even try to make our own rocks! We will also be identifying and grouping rocks and soils.

In PE this term, we will be learning to play Lacrosse and will also be creating dance routines which link to our Natural World!

In Music, we will be learning to play the violin on Wednesday afternoons.

PE will be on a Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon. Children are expected to have their full PE kits in school every week. As our PE topic is Lacross and Dance, PE sessions will take place both inside and outside. Maths homework will be handed out on a Monday and is to be handed in the following Monday. Spelling homework will be sent home on a Friday and the children will be tested on these spellings the following Friday. Children also have logins for TTRockstars which they can use to help them with practising their times tables.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come and see me at the end of the day or make an appointment through the office.

We look forward to seeing you!
